This is a list of what I believe to be the most important life skills. These are not in any specific order. I just like to maintain this list and reflect consistently, to ensure I am building these skills through time.

Understanding economics leads to understanding incentives, it helps understand things such as signaling theory, market, trade.

Understanding how memes spread

I believe this is important because understanding how memes spread can arm you against manipulation from others, and it can help you spread your own ideas better. "Trust me, I'm lying"

Being able to do boring things consistently

Being able to do this is a very important life skill as it leads to consistency, without it you cannot become an exert/very good at something. Examples are me listening to basketball players train and they are just playing basketball and doing drills, I cannot imagine doing that. [[atomic-habits]]

Thinking for yourself/contratian reasoning

This is extremely powerful, it will make others want to keep you in their circles as you don't think like the crowd does, it will lead to business success. You will, by the nature of your thinking, not be normal and not fall into mediocrity.

Questioning your assumptions

One of the most important skills is to be able to think for yourself, test assumptions. This is the key to de-biasing your mind, thinking for yourself, removing automatic negative thoughts. Learning how to learn

Acquire skills quickly and retain them. How to train: set a 4-week learning project, use spaced repetition, teach one concept per week to someone else.

Clear thinking & judgment

Related to rationalism See reality as it is; update fast. How to train: write predictions with probabilities, run premortems/postmortems, separate facts from interpretations in notes.

Self-awareness & emotional regulation

Know what you feel, why, and what to do with it. How to train: daily mood labeling (3 words), 10m mindfulness, “Name it → Normalize it → Next step.”

Knowing how to listen and understand

Note the only way to improve is to actively listen, don't just give information. always assume they know something you don't. it's more important you grow than give the impression you know everything

Knowing how to motivate yourself

How to get ont othe first step. Its finding a good reason to do something, do the first step.

Disciplining

After having the first step, you need to have the discipline to keep going.

Envisioning the future

Being able to simulate the effects of your actions. Think what your life would be life if you continue some actions, both in the near and short-term.

Choose well when stakes are real. How to train: use a 1-page decision brief: goal → options → expected value → reversibility → worst-case → next action.

Resilience & antifragility

Recover, adapt, and grow from stress. How to train: micro-adversity (cold shower, tough workout), “setback → lesson → adjustment” journal, keep commitments small and consistent.

Sleep, nutrition, movement, sunlight—non-negotiables. How to train: fix sleep window, protein + plants each meal, daily zone-2 walks, strength 2–3×/week.

Integrity & ethics

Do what you say; align actions with values. How to train: define top 3 values, apply a “front page test” to hard choices, keep promises (especially to yourself).
