Computer Fatigue

Last updated: 1/9/2025

Computer fatigue happens to me when I spend too long in front of my computer, especially sitting down. Here some things that can help:

  • Take breaks: Peppering your workday with short breaks, simple exercises, and proper [[Main/zettelkasten/nutrition|nutrition]] will make a long day of computer work less exhausting. Try to take a 5-10 minute break every hour or so to rest your eyes and stretch your body.
  • Stay [[hydration|hydrated]]: Dehydration leads to fatigue, so it's important to drink water throughout the day.
  • [[exercise]] your eyes: Every 20 minutes, blink 10 times by closing your eyes as if falling asleep (very slowly) . Another [[exercise]] is to look far away at an object for 10-15 seconds, then gaze at something up close for 10-15 seconds. Then look back at the distant object. Do this 10 times.
  • Adjust your workspace: Set up your workspace correctly to eliminate fatigue by reducing unnecessary stress on your body. Make sure your chair is at the right height, your monitor is at eye level, and your keyboard and mouse are within easy reach.
  • Wear glasses: For some people, wearing glasses that are prescribed for specific activities, such as for computer use or for reading, helps reduce eyestrain.
  • Take care of your body: [[physical-health|Physical fitness]] can help reduce strain, fatigue, and injuries by improving product design and workspace arrangement. Make sure you are sitting properly, with your ears, shoulders, and hips aligned, and take breaks to stretch your body.
  • Reduce your time spent on the computer: If you use the computer for both work and play, try to find areas where tasks can be completed without the aid of a computer. Less time at a computer means less computer fatigue.
