A quick doc on how I review my week and plan for the next one

My Weekly Review System

Here is a quick doc on how I review my week and plan for the next one:

Prime yourself

Before doing your weekly review, you should try to put yourself in a reflective state. This differs for everyone, but consider:

  • Changing your environment: go to an environment without distractions, where you feel calm and diffuse. Put your phone out of sight, schedule a couple hours to do your weekly review. Drink some earl gray tea.
  • Reading something inspirational: Read something that puts you in your best mental space, hype yourself up for the weekly review.

Reflection

Prime your brain to remember what happened this week. Make it fresh in your memory. Consider looking through your calendar, journal, emails, notes. Talks or lectures you attended or watched. Your todo list.

Questions to ask yourself while reading these:

  • What went well this week? What am I proud of? What did I accomplish?
  • What went wrong this week? What could I have done better? What did I learn?

Planning

What are your top 3 priorities for next week? What are the most important things you want to accomplish? What, if you were to fix it, would unblock everything else?

For behavioral changes, consider making Trigger-Action-Plans.

Act

I would recommend taking the first steps for your priorities right after your weekly review. You already know what you want to do, so take the first steps. This is especially true if your priorities have a long lead time.

If there are new habits you want to do => schedule them in your calendar/todo list
